China's participation in World War 2 was minimum, they supported the allies by sending few soldiers to battles in Africa. Why was China not involved in one of the most historic moments of the world? It wasn’t because they were afraid or they had no resources to enter the war, it was because Japanese wanted their territory and they started to invade China, killing raping and torturing innocent Chinese people. This event is marked as one of the most horrific and violent events to ever happen in Chinese history.
This invasion we have just mentioned was called the "Second Sino Japanese War". During those times (1930s) Japan's economy wasn't great and they had an imperialist government. In order for Japan to get a better economy, Japan felt they had to take control over China since China had alot of raw materials that could fuel Japanese economy. The event that marked the beginning of this invasion was called the "Manchuria Incident". Japanese soldiers dressed up as Chinese people, placed bombs on a railroad that was owned by Japanese near Mukden. They blew this railroad up and they used this as a reason to invade the Chinese.
Another event that marked the beginning of the Second Sino Japanese War was called the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, were an important access to China's capital Beijing was captured by Japanese troops. After this capture Japanese troops started to conquer more places. One of the most violent and dark events in China's History was the Nanking massacre. During this event, Japanese conquered Nanjing, and while doing that they killed raped and tortured innocent Chinese people for no reason. As a consequence of this, USA and Great Britain showed solidarity with China by applying punishments to Japan, for example the oil embargo. Japanese started to conquer small towns in China, but they took a huge step when they conquered Shanghai. They established a government in there. This event placed Japan on the lead. After this Soviet, USA, and the World War 2 Allies started to send support to China since everybody thought that what Japan was doing was wrong. After this support China started to win more battles and reconquer places. An important conference was the Cairo Conference held in Egypt 1943, in this meeting, there was the presence of Churchill, Roosevelt and Chinas president Chiang Kai Shek. In this meeting USA and Churchill clarified that they would support China until Japan's surrender. War ended in 1945 when the atomic bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered to the allies. General Douglas Mac Arthur ordered the surrender of Japanese troops in China.
The Cold War was characterized by the fight for hegemony between USA and USSR. This country wanted to gain the trust and election rom countries so the world was divided into 2. The communist block (USSR) and capitalist block (USA). China was the only major country that stood at the intersection of the two superpower camps. USSR and USA wanted to gain the support from China since China was a really large country and at that time had one of the biggest populations in the world. In the late 1940s, China, leaded by Mao created a sort of political alliance with USSR. After this USA was worried since they thought they had lost China. After this USA was desperate to take out the communist block and USA got involved in the Korean and Vietnam wars. It is said that when USA and USSR where fighting to “take control” over China the cold was moved from Europe to Asia. China then started to follow communism and Mao created a very similar government to the USSR in China. China also started to close its doors internationally and kept everything to itself. One of the reasons China decided to follow communism was because Stalin helped the communist political party in China (leaded by Mao) to win the civil war, which was a war to determine who would rule in China. After Stalin helped Mao, Mao won and China became communist. This communist political party started to reign China, and now at days it remains with power. China eventually changed some things, like not sharing nothing internationally like USSR.
The second sino Japanese invasion was an event that changed the word for the human atrocytis commited by the Japanese. Its remembered as one of the darkest moments in Chinese History. The Cold War was an event that defined the type of goverment that China was going to follow for the rest of its History. This two events certainly changed Chinese history.
